How to Bulk Up Muscle, and Why It's a Bad Idea
In bodybuilding, the common practice of "bulking up" can be defined as trying to gain muscle by consuming more calories. They say that it is a quicker method to build mass is you have a surplus of food energy in your body. The main problem with this "bulking up" method is that along with the muscle, you'll also be gaining considerable amounts of fat. If you want a pleasing physique, then bulking up is not what you want to do. (I'll explain below...)
Large Fat Cells are Bad... I mean REALLY Bad!
The truth of the matter is, we can't really lose fat cells... we shrink them. We all were born with a certain amount of fat cells, and they'll stay with us for the rest of lives. It may sound like it's the end of the world, but it doesn't have to be for you. What you can do, is to get lean by shrinking you fat cells. If you have tried the bulking up strategy before then you need to be extra careful, because it'll be easier for you to gain weight since you still have a lot of fat cells floating around in your system.
The Difficulty to Staying Lean
An obese person can have 3 times as much fat compared to a relatively lean individual. The endomorph does need a bit more disciple in the beginning to maintain a smaller body size. When you get to a certain level of leanness and hold it for a few weeks, your body will adjust, and keeping the fat off will become "a breeze" for you.
In the Beginning... Keep the Fat Off!
Bulking up is a really bad idea because you are "intentionally" adding calories to your diet. Once you've bulked up, you'll have more potential to gain fat. That's why we have bodybuilders who weigh 40-50 pounds more after a competition, because the fat cells are available and ready to be filled up again! Staying lean AND building muscle (at the same time) is something that not everyone can do, because they don't have the will power. But you'll find out that once you become lean, it'll become so much easier for you to keep it that way.
Never Give Up
You will from time to time lose the battle, but don't ever let yourself lose the war. For someone who is overweight, my advice would be to perform some kind of HIIT workout on "an empty stomach". You'll be amazed at the results.
We don't need as much Protein
Did you know that we don't need as much protein for muscle growth as the bodybuilding articles/magazines predicted? That why when someone tries to "bulk up" by eating lots of calories, the body just takes what it needs to rebuild the muscle that was just worked out. And where do you think the "unused calories" go? In the fat cells!
Did you ever wonder if you were putting on too much muscle in the wrong places? No longer! Now you can find out how to put on mass strategically, so that you'll always have a pleasing physique.
